Child and Family Poverty
The Partnership Forum was held on 20 July 2010 and looked at how Partnership members can engage more and work together to reduce Child and Family Poverty in Middlesbrough. Approximately 130 delegates from all sectors of the Partnership were in attendance at the Forum. The morning consisted of a series of presentations exploring national, regional, local and young people’s perspectives of child poverty. Delegates were involved in a series of workshops to gather evidence and information to inform the Middlesbrough Child Poverty Needs Assessment by considering:
- characteristics of a child in poverty in Middlesbrough;
- factors that influence these characteristics;
- actions currently taken across the partnership to address Child Poverty and the impact of these actions; and
- how we can shape future service delivery to have a positive impact on a child in poverty – i.e. what can be done differently?
The ultimate aim of the workshops was for groups to identify those actions that would make the biggest difference to Child Poverty. Many characteristics of a child in poverty were identified, however it was widely acknowledged throughout the workshops that addressing these factors involved:
- all partners around the table working together,
- a need to do things differently,
- addressing the needs of the whole family.
