Development of a Partnership Approach to the Economic Downturn

recession

During recent months Middlesbrough Partnership has worked on developing a partnership approach to issues arising from the recession.

The Partnership Forum on 28 April 2009 April’s updated partners on how the recession is affecting jobs and businesses, communities and young people in Middlesbrough.  Around 120 delegates attended this event from all sectors of the partnership.

Workshop sessions provided the opportunity for delegates to put forward ideas on how agencies could work together more effectively to meet the challenges.

The impact on young people was demonstrated by Just 4 Youth, a local social enterprise company that delivers young-person led training, research and consultancy. Their sketch examined the difficulties faced by young people and their families because of the economic downturn.

As a result of the Forum each of the Partnership's Action Group developed an action plan to address issues arising as a result of the economic downturn.

Middlesbrough Partnership has also set up a Financial Sub-Group that will focus on:

  • Improving access to debt and money advice advice,
  • improving accesses to affordable credit and banking services; and
  • improving financial literacy.

This group is chaired by the Manager of Middlesbrough Citizens Advice Bureau.   Details of work progressed by this group to-date can be found via the link on the home page of this site.
