Local Area Agreement

The Secretary of State signed off Middlesbrough’s Local Area Agreement in July 2008.

The Local Area Agreement sets out the priorities for the local area for the next three years, with agreed targets for improvements in public services. It is negotiated by the local area represented by the council and its partners through the local strategic partnership, the Government represented by Government Office.

Middlesbrough’s LAA includes 35 designated targets and 16 statutory targets (relating to educational attainment) and 17 local targets. Local targets were developed where there were no targets to measure achievements of a strategic priority.

The Local Area Agreement is based on the themes and priorities in the Sustainable Community Strategy and the Local Area Agreement translates these into targets to secure the improvements local people want to see.
