Draft Middlesbrough Town Centre Strategy

Middlesbrough town centre is an important part of the Middlesbrough economy acting as a key social and economic hub for shopping, education, cultural, social, business and community life in the town and the wider Tees Valley City Region.

Planning for the future of the town centre and exploiting it’s potential as a driver of the economy is therefore essential to the future of Middlesbrough.  During 2008/9 Middlesbrough Council have been working closely with specialist consultants to produce a draft Middlesbrough Town Centre Strategy, outlining the ambition for the future and proposed actions over the next ten years to deliver this.

The Strategy seeks to build upon the positive assets of the town centre and address some of the current weaknesses.  It seeks to provide linkages between various schemes and projects currently under development and proposes actions, designed to improve the economic vitality of the town centre.

The Council is keen to engage with key stakeholders and stimulate a debate about the vision for the future of the Town Centre and the suggested actions to achieve this.

Further information about the draft Strategy, including the full document, a consultation summary and details of and how you can become involved in the consultation are all available on the Middlesbrough Council website:
