Healthy Living Schemes
NEW CASH FOR GROUPS TO RUN HEALTHY LIVING SCHEMES
Community and voluntary groups in Middlesbrough can get assistance from the Council to run projects aimed at making more local people more active or encouraging healthy eating choices.
A ‘Community Initiatives Fund’ of £50,000 has been set up and community and voluntary groups can bid for a share of the cash, with a maximum of £5000 available for any one project.
Ideas for projects could include a voluntary group organising healthy lunches or neighbourhood walks for specific groups of people, a sports club or mother and toddler group buying equipment, or a community association establishing a community growing or local cycling scheme.
The money has come from the Department of Health to help the Council work with community partners to reduce health inequalities, and the scheme will run in parallel with Middlesbrough’s Healthy Towns initiative that is seeing £9million of investment ploughed into improving the town’s health.
The Council’s Healthy Living Team will administer the grant application process and the Healthy Town Management Team will be responsible for awarding grants.
Application forms are now available for the first round of grants - for more details either contact Rayees Rashid at Vancouver House, Gurney Street Middlesbrough TS1 1QP or call 01642 728247, or email food&safety@middlesbrough.gov.uk
